About Wendy

Wendy moved to Kingston in 2006 to attend Queen’s University as a graduate student. After earning her Master’s degree (2008), she pursued her love of teaching and learning through obtaining her B.Ed. at the Faculty of Education at Queen’s (2009). From there, she joined the Limestone District School Board as a professional elementary school educator, where she continues to teach part-time. Wendy brings a unique skillset to the role of city councillor, leveraging her integrity, authenticity, and critical thinking skills.

As a member of Council, she has accepted additional responsibility, sitting on several City committees and working as a council representative on several Boards of Directors, including Sustainable Kingston, Kingston Frontenac Public Library, Cataraqui Conservation, Tourism Kingston and the Police Service Board. Her deepening understanding of good governance, coupled with her approachability, humility, and respect for herself and others, makes her a thoughtful and effective member of Council.

Wendy lives in the west end of the city with her husband Geoff and their three girls, Holly, Rebecca, and Rachel.

Wendy first ran for Kingston City Council in 2022, in Lakeside District.

Knocking on thousands of doors, she heard directly from residents what they care about most. Several themes emerged including improving City customer service, addressing climate change, helping with housing & homelessness, increasing access to family doctors, improving road conditions, curtailing speeding motorists, addressing long-time flooding issues in Reddendale, ensuring the long-term protection of Lemoine Point Farm, and enhancing neighbourhood safety. These issues, and more, were included in the City of Kingston’s 2023-2026 Strategic Plan.

In her first term as a City Councillor, Wendy has used her background as an educator to listen, learn, think deeply, and support her constituents. She has worked collaboratively with residents, Council colleagues, City staff, and local leaders to support inclusive economic growth and smart development throughout the City.

In addition to what she heard at the doors during the election, Wendy has remained connected to the community’s shifting priorities throughout her council term. She championed several important initiatives, including declaring Intimate Partner Violence an epidemic, closing loopholes in the City’s Property Standards By-Law so that car-damaging potholes in commercial parking lots would finally be fixed properly, and bringing organizations together to provide a functional opt-out system for unwanted newspaper deliveries (link: Distributor steps in to address ‘unwanted newspaper delivery’ in Kingston). She also brought forward a motion to initiate a collaborative Shop Local Strategy to address the economic uncertainty brought on by the US tariffs (link: Kingston to launch shop local campaign to counter tariff threat | The Kingston Whig Standard).
Wendy has worked diligently to stay connected to her constituents. She regularly canvasses and leaves her contact info card, hosts an annual Lakeside District Information Session, offers monthly updates in an email newsletter, publishes a monthly article in Neighbours magazine, and promptly returns emails and phone calls from residents. Additionally, she regularly demonstrates transparency and accountability by accepting interview requests from the media to speak to important issues facing Kingston.

As a forward-thinking team player, Wendy brings integrity, authenticity, and financial acumen to her work at City Hall. As a Council member, she has accepted added responsibility, sitting on several committees and working as a council representative on several Boards of Directors, including Kingston Frontenac Public Library, Cataraqui Conservation, and Tourism Kingston. Wendy has also enjoyed volunteering as a house league soccer coach for Atletico Kingston.

Her deepening understanding of good governance, coupled with her approachability and respect for herself and others makes Wendy an excellent City Councillor.
